If you’ve been involved with internet marketing for some time, you may already be using SEO strategies in your lenses. Still, this article is worth perusing because there are a few places where it is important to always include the keywords.
You can do the keyword researching using free tools such as Wordtracker and Google
Once you choose a niche, type that in the box to see which keywords pop up. For example, if your niche is computers, you’ll type in “computers” to see which keywords it returns. You’ll also want to head over to google and see how many results each of the keywords return when the keyword is in quotes.
If you are focusing on long tail keywords (Bum Marketing style) you’ll want the results to be anywhere from1000 to 10,000. If you want to focus on broader keywords, make sure they aren’t anymore than 50,000 targeted searches. This way, you stand a better chance of your lens making it to the first page on Google.
In addition, keep these main points in mind as you use keywords on your lenses.
One main keyword per lens - It is a good idea to target one main keyword per lens. If you try to cram too many keywords into the same lens, it will not read well and the search engines may actually penalize you.
Keyword in the URL – Make sure the main keyword is present in the URL. If the keyword phrase has more than one word, you may want to separate it in dashes. Google treats the dash like a space. You can either reserve the lens URL to be the keyword, or the title of your article. It is usually best to have the URL be the keyword.
Put the keyword in the title – This is one of the most important places to have the keyword. Make it fit naturally in the title. You should choose keywords that work well in a sentence.
Intro paragraph, body, and end of the lens – The keyword should also be present once in the intro paragraph, once in the body, and once at the end of the lens. Resist the urge to put the main keyword in there more than once.
Related keywords – As you are researching keywords for your topic, you may come across some related keywords. If you decide to use them, only use each related keyword once. You can also omit this step and write the lens content naturally. The search engines will pick up on whichever keywords you are including naturally.
Be sure to pay attention to your lenses and how you are positioning the keywords so you can learn what is working for you. Give your lenses time to increase in traffic but also feel free to change the location of the keywords slightly if you aren’t progressing as you think you should.
